LT gave me a book on Haute Couture sewing for xmas. It's fascinating reading. I never knew what ridiculous amounts of hand sewing went into Haute Couture fashion. And I'm not talking about Armani or Ralph Lauren (that's Pret a Porter). I'd have to quit my job if I wanted to make anything with that level of work. Oh yeah! That's a great book (I lost my copy dammit). I hate hand-sewing, but for historical outfits, I do try to have anything that is visible be handsewn. And ironing is SO important! I took a class at Costume College from a guy who works in movie costuming & he showed all kinds of theater & couture tricks for professional pressing, much like in that book.

They finish the clips?!?! Holy crap. I've done a couple of things where I've finished the seam edges, but I never even thought about clips.. but I guess it makes sense. How the hell does one finish the clips? Little tiny blanket stitches?

Yup, little overcast stitches. They're shown in that picture I posted, but it's pretty hard to see. The stitches are so tiny!
