for stowing odds and ends around camp in (glaring mundane stuff etc) and to be more organized.

I also want to make some chairs or stools or benches or something.

Ooh! Pretty!! And that's something you could illuminate and enter in the Scribal Contest at Candlemas.

From someone that has made a few boxes...

Never build a wood box over 3 cu feet in size. Since, between the weight of the wood, and the amount of stuff you can put in a box, you can quickly get a larger box to the point where one person can't carry it.

My favorite size of box is 2 cu, that is 2 ft (long) and 1ft on each side. Easy to pickup, easy to carry and you can't fill it so full of stuff you can't pick it up.

i have experienced Too Big Box syndrome! That's why i am particularly interested int he knock down boxes, they can hold all those weird odds and ends that end up strung around camp but get packed elsewhere (or the empty ugly mundane containers soem things are packed in), then broken down for travel! I do wonder if they'd be sturdy enough to double as seating though...

That's just taking up more room - the containers the stuff is travelling in, plus the containers it's in camp in.

Kill two birds with one stone, build nice boxes they travel in.

it's a lot easier to pack for example bedding in a soft container that squishes and pack some of the odd shaped smaller things in the odd shaped smaller spaces that happen when packing the big things.

remember everything we take has to fit in the fit and the crown vic along with three humans and a large dog. a box that breaks down flat can go on the bottom and takes up minimal room. there is no room for another box and i can't condense any more than i have since we have zii and corbyn in addition to ourselves.

Mike just made those and they are awesome. We will try them out at HSL. They also serve as extra seating. We are going to put the cooler in the big one and all the other food in the other one, bread, chips dry goods, etc. That stuff just lays around and gets trampled otherwise or takes up our whole table.
