We caught a brief glimpse of the tail end of the transit of Venus this morning. I woke up at about 04:45 local time, and looked outside. It was cloudy, but I figured I'd stay awake until all chance was gone. The cloud was moving quite fast, and then a patch of clear sky approached. I took the solar scope outside, and as soon as I could see through the cloud exactly where the Sun was I pointed the scope in the right direction, and was eventually rewarded with a glimpse of solar limb, and then of the black dot close to the edge. As Venus moved off to the side of the Sun the skies cleared a bit, and we had a reasonable view. Then the cloud rolled over again, and the sight was over.
