Am attending a conference on teaching at the TRC, largely to broaden my mind, as I do not expect to teach for some time. The conference organisers seem unnaturally pleased with themselves for having thought of such a conference. I remember that one of my friends went to one of those teacher conferences here in America. They spent most of the day before lunch discussing their feelings in a little feelings discussion group. The headmaster let them leave after lunch as the man, "Obviously had nothing to say that was of any importance." He later said, "I apologize for taking you away from your students to hear such vapid nonsense. It's just a good thing these days are built into the schedule."

I laughed my head off when she told me about it. I should have gone if for no better reason than to witness it.

What sort of school was this? The Americans can be silly, but the institutional commitment to bettering teaching is something that Hogwarts at least could stand to emulate.--HSG.
