I'm not enjoying much of Still Life with Woodpecker, the first novel I'm indulging in in many months, but I did enjoy this:

Poetry, the best of it, is lunar and is concerned with the essential insanities. Journalism is solar (there are numerous newspapers named The Sun, none called The Moon) and is devoted to the inessential.

i'm definitely enjoying it better as i get further into it -- it's finally becoming more of a story.
but in many places i feel like he's showing off, which is irritating, and/or trying to imitate kurt vonnegut.
and he kind of comes off to me as perpetuating the view of the womanizer while pretending to be liberated.
