"Eh, Yama-chan Take care of Yourself, ne?" ONE-SHOT
"Okay class, now, we're going to have an English project due on Friday. I know it's short notice, but I wanna see how well you all will do " announced the teacher of class 3-D at Horikoshi Gakuen.
Outbursts of "eeehhh???" and "Naniiii???" were echoed throughout the students of the classroom.
"Oh, stop complaining. Now the objectives of this project are simple. You must have a conversation in front of the class, completely in English with an 'American' friend that recently came to visit. Now, the maximum amount of people to a group is 3, so now, scatter and choose your groups!" The teacher yelled.
Students were scrambling across the room and noisily calling out to their friends. Certain people just had to exchange looks and they knew that they were partners immediately. Among these were the groups of Kamiki/Shougo/irie, Mirai/Suzuka/Umika, and of course, the three JUMP members, Yamada/Chinen/Nakajima.
"So we can definitely talk about this during the down times in rehearsal, when we're taking a break" Nakajima piped up.
"Hai, I'm sure it would be okay for us to ask Keito for a little help in things we don't understand!" Yamada said with a bright smile
"Oh, and by the way students" the teacher announced over the voices of the students, "Aside from other classmates and myself, no outside help allowed."
"YAAAHHHHH!" the classmates yelled out "yabai yo! This isn't good!" they complained, "Sensei, nande??"
"Because , I want to see how much you have improved as a class. If there are outsiders involved, how will i know how you all are doing? "
"Ah, that's really annoying, ne sensei!" a few students said,
"Don't complain, I'm giving you class time today, tomorrow, and the day after to work on this, so you have plenty of time."
"Yeah, about Keito helping...nevermind." Yamada said with a frown, his tension immediately decreased.
"Haha, Yama-chan! I'm sure we'll do fine" Chinen said, the usual smile on his face
THAT DAY AT PRACTICE
"You three have been talking amongst yourselves for most of the rehearsal. What's up?" Yabu asked
"Oh, we just have an English project to work on, we're just trying to see when and where we would be able to meet up to work on it." Nakajima said, his eyes focused on the schedule their manager printed up for the month.
"Ahhh, Horikoshi school projects..." The BEST members said simultaneously, "That's nostalgic, ne?"
"Yeah, nostalgic. I'm so glad I'm done with that!" Hikaru said with a relieved smile, "It's good to be free, ne?" he asked, waiting for a reply, but turning quiet when the four members of HS7 who still attended the school glared him down.
"Ah, so....Yamada's house this Tuesday, Chinen's on Wednesday, and then my house Thursday...is that okay with you guys?" Nakajima asked, waiting for replies.
"...Sure" the other two replied lazily.
Practice ended that day on a good note. Everyone got the dances perfect after a few tries, and everyone was feeling good, especially manager-san, who allowed them to leave earlier than usual, however, they had to run to get on the train on the way home, because it was raining horribly outside. The next morning, the weather still wasn't great, but with few people missing, classes went on like normal. They were sitting for their first lesson of the day when Nakajima seemed to notice something wrong with Yamada, but saved his questions for break.
"Ehh, Yama-chan, doushitano?" he asked curiously.
"Ah, daijoubu. I'm okay Yuto, just got a slight cold from being caught in the rain yesterday." he replied, his voice sounding nasal and stuffy.
"Are you sure, Yama-chan? You don't look too good..." Chinen said with a pout. And Chinen was right. Yamada's nose was red, and even though he tried to hide it with his glasses, his eyes were puffy and red, he was seriously sweating, his voice was much weaker than usual, and the biggest giveaway was that he had laid his head on the table, and was like that all morning.
"Really guys, I'm fine, I promise. Stop worrying about me, really." he said with a slight smile, and went back to sitting quietly with his head pressed to the cold tabletop.
"Ano, I'm gonna go to the bathroom, okay" he then said quietly, and got up to leave. As he was almost out the door of the cafeteria, he tripped and fell to the floor. A few people giggled, but his friends at the table knew that this was serious, panicked, jumped up and ran in the direction of the fallen boy.
"YAMA-CHAN! YAMA-CHAN DAIJOUBU??" Chinen screamed, but Yamada was on the floor, and couldn't get up on his own.
"SOMEONE CALL THE SCHOOL NURSE!!!" Ryutaro yelled, while Yuto threw his jacket over Yamada. He put his hand on Yamada's head and flinched as he pulled away, "WOAH! He has a really bad fever!" Yuto yelled.
The nurse came rushing in and took him to the infirmary, his friends following close behind. She called his home and asked for permission to give him medicine to lessen his fever while his older sister got into her car and sped in the direction of the school. While she was on the way, the nurse put a damp cloth on his head and scolded him.
"Obviously, you've had this fever since this morning! Why didn't you stay at home and rest? Coming to school just made it worse!" she yelled
"I didn't...want to let anyone...down..." he whispered, his eyes half opened.
"What?" his friends all said simultaneously.
"Chinen...Nakajima....I didn't want to...let you down.." he said
"Eh?" Chinen asked, tense with fear for his dear friend. "What do you mean, let us down?"
"The...project. We have to work on it...together. We...don't have that much time. I wanted to do my...part. I didn't want to make you...do all the work. I didn't...want to let you...down." he said even softer, as the medicine began to make him slip into a deep sleep.
"Yamada. No matter what, you could never let us down. Never. " Chinen said softly.
"He's right you know. No matter what, the most important thing to us is that you're okay. We care more about you than some stupid project. " Nakajima interjected.
"And you can bet on that. " Chinen ended with a smile.
Yamada coughed slightly and said, "Arigatou...you guys are the best friends...I could ever ask for" and mustered a smile before falling asleep completely. Just then his sister, Chihiro, burst into the door and yelled "WHAT HAPPENED TO MY OTOUTOU????" her hair and clothing in a mess, since she obviously rushed out of the house at the news. Everyone in the room just smiled at her.
"What??" She asked, confused.
"Nothing." the nurse said with a smile, "Just...your brother would've been okay since the start. He has amazing friends"
FRIDAY, THE DAY OF THE PROJECT
Chinen, Yamada and Yuto are almost done presenting, all speaking in English, all sounding somewhat funny.
(In English)
Chinen: Hamubagah, right?
Yuto: Why yes, I also sink hamubagah...ano...is derricous.
Yamada: Hai! Ah....Yes!! Hamubagah is great, but za portion is very larger....in America.
Chinen: Ah...yes, I hear this is so. That portion is very larger...there.
....... (Whispering in Japanese)
Chinen: What comes next again???
Yuto: I forgot...
Yamada: Crap! Me too....
Chinen: Ano...then lets just end it, ne?
Yuto & Yamada: Okay!
(Speaking in English again)
Yamada: Ah...well I...go now. Have things to do and people...seeee..
Yuto: Ah, hai...YES! We will see you again...other time.
Chinen: Ahm...yes..well...goodbye then, our American friend....JAKE.
Yuto: Good bye
Yamada: Bye!
The presentation ended, and everyone just looked around awkwardly. Then Chinen asked, "How was that sensei?"
The teacher thought for a second and then decided. " I think that got you all a 4"
"YES!!!!" Yuto yelled, as he ran happily to his seat.
"So in the end, we did pretty well huh?" Yamada asked, sitting in his seat.
"Yeah, and you were worried, ne Yama-chan?" Chinen whispered while the teacher concluded the class. The bell rang and they left to head to lunch, and Kamiki, Shougo and Irie walked next to them.
"So that presentation was pretty good, huh? JAKE?" Shougo said, making fun of Yamada's made up American name.
"Hey, don't make fun of me. At least I wasn't a woman...ne Kamiki, or should I say, BRITNEY???"
"SHUT UP!" Kamiki said, blushing. The friends all laughed as they headed off to lunch, laughing even more when Ryutaro caught up to them and had no idea what was going on.
