Yup. Our brains make a lot of assumptions about what the world around us is actually doing, and we don't even realize it.
This is also apparent when trying to guess how far away somebody extremely tall or short is. We use things like height and proportions to gauge distance, and things get knocked out of whack when those things aren't what we expect them to be.
