Future conflicts

Among all the terrible things which will happen this century, perhaps the least is that in 2040 Shrove Tuesday and St Valentine's Day will occur at the same time. Thank you for looking ahead. I have a great deal of time for the awkwardness of the upcoming holiday to really sink in.

Also, nothing says "I want you to want me" like a panacake choc full of pepto-bismal-pink m&ms.

The thing about pancakes, if you actually observe Lent, is that their plentifulness foreshadows a time of going without tasty things. So if it clashes with Valentine's Day, you have to spend the day brooding on how your love will surely come to an end. You can have sex if you like, but you have to look sad afterwards. Then you spend Lent throwing plates at each other. It's not as if you'll be using the plates for eating nice things, after all.

Easter is sorted. You go to B&Q in a bad mood and spend the whole weekend hammering in nails.

My time working for the Church of England has really paid off, hasn't it?

It's more of a job for programmers than mathematicians: to us, an overloaded holiday is just another case of function crepe.
