So I was just looking at Mission Year, thinking it was a possible post-grad thing to do. Then I saw this, about walking alone:

Well, I don't know about the other three, but depending on which part of Chicago you're in that's probably a good idea. Hey, there's a mission a block away from my building! If you have anything to do with that place, the fears are unfounded, but go a little further and you'd be best to go in groups.

Really? For some reason this is an issue that really gets me. While I have no actual statistical info on this, I feel like driving a car is the most dangerous thing we can do, and we do that w/o precaution all the time. I feel like doing things like walking in groups because we are too scared to walk alone only increases the fear about such issue, when they are statistically less likely than getting in a car wreck. But, like I said, I have do not have any actual stats.

i think being in groups is totally necessary. anyone walking alone in a strange place (or a familiar one) can easily be victimized. as far as having a guy, i think walking in groups is good enough, no matter the gender.
