If I understand you correctly though, you seem to be suggested a fantasy version of The Three Musketeers or a game set in a sort of fantasy French Revolution/Terror.
Personally, I didn't hugely enjoy The Three Musketeers and I don't know enough about that era of French history to be able to follow along. I must confess that it doesn't sound hugely grabbing to me.

Anyway, I'm thinking something of a mix of Three Musketeers/French Revolution as a period for a fantasy game. As per previous comments along the lines of an urban or Victorian fantasy, I've done plenty of indeterminately medieval games and I'm curious about building a fantasy game around very different preconceptions. Warhammer assumes a more renaissance-y world with gunpowder, printing press etc so that's part of why it sprang to my mind.

I've re-read it now and it makes much more sense. I guess last time I was either tired, skim-reading or both. You could maybe tempt me with a one-off but my Dumas/French history quibbles still stand :).
