In Character Information

character name:  Pride // Selim Bradley
Fandom:  Fullmetal Alchemist Manga
Timeline: Chapter 102 - very first page.
character's age: Looks ten, is really 300 years old.

powers, skills, pets and equipment:  I did a write up. ^^;

canon history: Pride's the first homunculus created by Father, and, as his name states, he exemplified pride. And god, does Pride have his pride. Every emotion he holds is based on that. Pride's roughly 350 years old and was created to act as a covert observer. He's also second in command of the homunculus. He's also been stated to have appeared at the side of every important high ranking official for at least as far back as photos go. He's more than likely been at the side of the head official of the country since it started, or near enough.

Sometime before the series start, Pride was assigned the role of 'Selim', King Bradley's - Wrath - the youngest homunculus [Also human based and able to age] and his wife's adoptive son. Mostly as Wrath was infertile and they needed to 'play family.' Selim filled his role perfectly.

Pride briefly shows up when Envy is fighting Ling and Ran fan, and scolds Envy, stating that the enemy - Alphonse, Mustang, Havoc and Hawkeye have infiltrated into the lair. He then retreats, presumably to play his role of being a human. He then briefly shows up when Wrath returns from his inspection of the South, He greats his 'father' with exuberance, though his mother greats her husband with concern for his well-being. Later, 'Selim' reads out an essay that he wrote, stating how proud he is of his father. [This is brotherhood only]. A short time after that, Pride, from the shadows, scolds Wrath on letting Mustang and Hawkeye live after Lust's death, but let's it go as Wrath seems to be having fun with this deviation from the overall plan.

He's not seen again until just before Edward goes off to Briggs, this time, as Selim. He and his mother talk with the pair a bit, and in Brotherhood, Wrath joins them for a bit. 'Selim' hugs him and is the perfect son. He's then seen a bit later in chapter 70, when Riza Hawkeye finds out his Identity. He threatens her, but she sees through the game that he'd kill her. Nonetheless, he does scare her into, mostly, silence. A bit after that, he goes with his Father to the East and shit happens that results in his 'disappearance'. In realities, he's got a job to do.

And that's telling Kimblee to Carve a crest of blood in Briggs. He then shows up in a skirmish where he takes Al captive, fights Edward, devours Gluttony and is then trapped. He's later freed a few hours later by Kimblee and then makes his way to Central, where he arrives and with Wrath's aid, pins Mustang. He'd about to make him open the gate when he winds up in Scorched. Rather unhappy as well about it all.

personality: Put simply, Pride is a bastard and a monster amongst monsters. He's arrogant, conceited and ruthlessly devoted to Father's goals, whatever they are. He sees humans as little more than insects, though not even that at times. A humans life only has as much value as its use. IE: Edward Elric is allowed to live, as he's an Important Sacrifice. Others are... not so lucky and Pride will kill them with out mercy. Mrs Bradley is another example, though as far as Pride cares, she's Wrath's pet human.

He claims to have nothing but pride him and that is true. All his other 'emotions' link back to that. He is literally pride incarnate. However, for all his ruthlessness and bloodlust, he does have devotion and loyalty to Father, the man that created him. He asks at one point "Is not natural to have loyalty to the one who created you?" It could be said that it's almost a blind loyalty.

Pride knows that humans think of his kind as monsters. It's what they are, but, to them, they are also the 'next step' in human evolution. They are better, faster, stronger than humans and live for seemingly ever. They are part of a whole, a family. Made from the one Father. They hold no weakness that humans do and they do not allow emotions to get the way of logic. Case in point is Pride's devouring of Gluttony and the methodical way that he goes about it. Gluttony wasn't his sibling, but simply a part of a whole. It's unknown if Pride really, truly believe that, or, being the little shit that he is, simply said it for shock value. It could be both and given his portrayal, it more than likely was. His relationships with his siblings aren't shown, only that he considers it 'rude' that Greed called him a monster. But given that the original greed betrayed the group, it could be that his fierce pride was injured. Pride is a nasty sin and if he feels slighted in some way, be it a significant thing or no, he'll turn his attention on you. Of course, he could do that simply for shits and giggles. There's a reason that his siblings call him a monster amongst monsters.

As Selim, Pride's acting skills go to work. He's had over 300 years to perfect the well raised child of the fuhrer act. To be a loving, kind child. However this doesn't mean that he doesn't feel some form of genuine attachment when it comes to his 'mother'. He does, even if it's the way an owner does to a pet. He's curious though as to why when he was almost run over, she darted out to save him. He could have moved at anytime he wanted, but she, a frail, weak pathetic human, risked her life for him. He doesn't get it. Why would a human do that for one who is not even it's offspring but adopted? It doesn't make sense, but it's good to exploit.

His relationship with Wrath/King Bradley is more of a complicated one. On one hand they play the father-son role, but on the other hand, Pride is Wrath's oldest brother. It's implied that Pride has some fondness for him, but how much is never shown, only that he more than likely considers Wrath to more of a father figure than Father, right at the end.

why do you feel this character would be appropriate to the setting? Pride might look ten years old, but he's 300 and a monster of monsters. First homunculus and all that, yo. He's also good at deceit and manipulating people, so expect him to play the role of helpless little boy for as long as he can.
