I have been waging a similar war that I call:

Spider Vs ShopVac

Spider loses. But Spider -WEB- can be a difficult one. Tenacious stuff.

Unfold a wire hanger and use it to get the web all wrapped up on itself. :D But totally kill the spider first.

should i mention the small chance the aforementioned "bug" can climb it's way out of the vacuum bag and wreak more havoc?

you really should follow my methodology of "squish, splat, no more bug"...

Shhh! You shouldn't mention this! Besides, I couldn't squish it. It was too close to my stuffed Kiwi. What it some of the splatter had contaminated it? It was nigh unthinkable!

i feel that i should mention this since glowing in the light of success means nothing if it comes back to potentially bite yer bum in vengeance.

as to the kiwi...dear lady, there are always casualties in war...the luck of the kiwi is that it can be cleaned through the wash or tidy-wiped then dry cleaned to avoid regular washing. if one commits to this conflict, one must be prepared for all inevitabilities...
