You have me thinking of things long forgotten. I have lived in Canada for over thirty yrs. but I was raised in Renfrew. My mother was from Glasgow and I can remember the trips to Kelvin Hall.
I think the thing I remember most about the Kelvin Hall was waiting on the steps for the doors to open so we could get in, and it was dark and cold but I was too excited to care! That and winning a Mork and Mindy purse inside.
The Christmas carnival is at the SECC now (Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre) in Anderston, just on the Clyde. It's not the same, to be honest. Ridiculously expensive, and the rides feel like they last thirty seconds. Things change, I guess. Like having security on the doors, even on the entrance to the Green now when the carnival is there. They never used to have to do that when I was a kid.
My friend's mother stays in Renfrew now, and a few of my friends are from Bridge of Weir, Linwood and Howwood. Tis a small world. :)
