Hello, Dolly!

Tonight, I took my mum to see Hello, Dolly, at the Kings.

And it actually wasn't half bad! )

I've always liked that musical. It is sad, but true, that frequently you have a name for the lead while more talented chorus people cover for their inabilities.

Your mention of Darren Day is exactly the reason I endeavor not to find out much about the people I enjoy creatively. Once I know something truly nasty about them it spoils my ability to enjoy their performance.

See, there's the thing. Even if you truly like the character, it's like the 'new light' you see the actor in somehow bleeds through and taints the character. Regretfully, I can sometimes be a total fangirl over things like that (despite being old enough to know better), but I have to say that knowing Darren's 'history' didn't actually affect my enjoyment. He was actually quite good - I knew he'd been in Joseph but I don't think I'd ever actually heard him sing; I can honestly say once the show got started properly and he was putting on a good performance, I forgot all about what he had done or was meant to have done.

Still fancy the pants off that wee dancer, though! ;) Hee!

Hello you, and thanks I think!

Just a couple of comments from someone who thought Hello Dolly was superb!

I thought it was very well casted, all of them on stage were `stars` as there seemed to be so many lead roles!

And .... it was a very entertaining musical, more so than expected, songs, dance, comedy etc., - something for everyone!

Check out Darren Days website at www.darrendayfanclub.webeden.co.uk. - he is a really nice guy.

All the best
Sharon x

ps Bet I can guess which dancer you mean also!

You've seen it? It was very good. I was pleasantly surprised, since I wasn't really looking forward to it - it was a birthday present for my mum, and she's a big Anita/musicals fan so I was prepared to sit through a few hours of boredom, but it turned out not to be like that at all.

Very snazzy production and I liked the flashing Hello, Dolly sign at the start too. Oh, and the scene changes were handled very smoothly.

Re: Darren, I guess there are two sides to every story. Regardless, he's cute too but trumped by the dancer who was very nice. :)
