Up For Air

Page 4 is up.

I'm looking for good comics to read. Or normal non-pictorial (handicapped, as I like to think of it) literature. Any suggestions?

I've been on sort of a post-apocalyptic kick lately. This month I've read The Road, Riddley Walker, The Drifting Classroom and the entire run of Dragon Head. I think I need to take a break from the genre. I' ( Read more... )

Nice to see a pretty girl in the comic.

I know there was a manga of it, but I don't read those (or any comics, really) but something I've been watching that's been pretty inspiring for me is "Mushi-shi" on Hulu. It's an older anime, but since I'm not really an anime buff, I didn't know about it until I stumbled across it this summer. I kind of started watching it on a whim. Have you seen it?

(If not, it's a quiet series about a man who goes around old Japan dealing with supernatural animals that interfere with people's lives. Usually the critters are like glowing worms or jellyfish that make people deaf or age super-fast. And, almost everyone who is struggling with one of these critters [called mushi] is also dealing with some deep loss or depression. I like it a great deal.)

Anyways, there's a recommendation for something quality.

We've been Netflixing Mushi-Shi for the last couple of months, and I would like to second your recommendation. For any of the other two people who read my blog -- check it out. It only gets better, too. The fifth disc is full of nifty.

Man this page was just awesome. I liked how you contrasted the detailed outdoors with the less detailed interior. I can really see the thought that is going into these pages. Dude you might get recruited before you are finished with the book!

Looking at your work always makes me want to do better.

Sadly the only comic that I can think to recommend would be Berzerk. Dark Horse is putting those out. Good stuff.

Recruited? Really?

We should make a bet on who'll actually get a comic on the shelf first. My money's on you. You're like the next Jaime Hernandez!

Seriously. You know how to control a brush, even. Your lines have different thicknesses. And you know how to use black. All that, and you keep getting better with every drawing.

I'm curious what your first comic would be about. Is it safe to say it'd involve some kind of zaftig Wonder Woman-type hero?

You're like the next Jaime Hernandez! Funny you should say that! I too am a Hernandez, but I'm Puerto Rican and Jaime is Mexican...plus he is a better artist than I will ever be. But if I'm Jaime then you are Jeff Darrow, now all you need to do is draw some porno club sex scene.

But you have the edge since you are actually drawing your comic and I have three in my head, well I did start outlining one that no one will understand, but is pretty important to me as a person.

Seriously. You know how to control a brush, even. Your lines have different thicknesses. And you know how to use black. All that, and you keep getting better with every drawing.Dude go to a comic con large enough to support art dealers and you will cry when you see original art. And you will realize how much you have to work to keep up, Well you won't but I will. And if I could control a brush the way that I wanted to you would see that my inks would match my pencil work better. As for the getting better part..well I'd say that we both are improving ( ... )

BTW I just read your influences...and I hate to say this, but I was told by one of the actors in The thin red line that the guy who played the main character couldn't act. LOL. It just goes to show you how important the direct can be.
