Hunger

I wake up Cold & Old to this world,
Leaving my dreams of warmth fading into the past.
Spiraling downwards into Oblivion’s sweet embrace,
I falter.

Upwards I see an apparition of blue white light,
A being like me lost in the tides and eddies of nothingness.
It begins to fight to survive and through its struggle,
I laugh.

The waters strike back with milky black webs,
Encasing and entombing its now suffocating prey.
Caught within this straight jacket it falls towards me,
I smile.

I feel a spontaneous rush of passion and life cry out,
As I reflexively grab onto it making a startling discovery.
Like it, I too want to fight and leave this watery prison,
I hunger.

I lash out with my teeth and consume its very essence,
To draw into me the very life force of this now dieing being.
As I cannibalize my prey I reach new levels and heights of ecstasy,
I climax.

I am left changed with huge leathery wings on my very back,
And with great ease I begin my ascent out of this lifeless abyss.
As I reach even higher I break free from the filmy top most layer of my prison,
I escape.
