Beachyhead

Today Katie, Valerie, and I decided to go to Beachyhead because it was ridiculously nice out. Seriously, like sunny and warm. Joy. So we headed into Brighton to catch what we thought would be the 12:15 bus to Beachyhead. Apparently, Nina has the old bus schedule and buses only leave for Beachyhead every :55. Sooo, we waited for the bus. Eventually we got onto the good old number 13 bus. After about an hour long ride on the top of the double decker (through tiny little streets and towns)which includes various sheep sightings, a Caution: Badgers sign, and many a lovely English field. So eventually we got to Beachyhead and dear god.

First of all, on one side of Beachyhead is a giant field of Englishness. There's just a tiny little village and then fields and cows. It was a good example of everything that's wrong with America. WE DON"T HAVE FIELDS. I like fields. Except when I have that fear thing with the giant fields and the line of trees that really only Marisa and Jeb understand. But these were cool fields.

Then, on the other side was the giant cliff.
It was insane. Huge chalky cliffs with no type of fence keeping people from going to the edge. And I guess people do try to go over the edge because Beachyhead is apparently known as the place for Brits to commit suicide. Woot! I also saw a car that had driven off the cliff.

So we wandered around the top of the cliffs freaking out about how high it was, how cool the cliffs were, and why there were guys playing football right near the cliffs. Not smart. It was one of those moments where I was happy that it wasn't a family trip because I know Chris would've done that fake "push me off the cliff" thing and then mom would've yelled at Chris and then there would have been a Connolly family debacle. But I digress.

There were little crosses all over the place which was slightly disconcerting. We all took way too many pictures of the cliffs because there is absolutely nothing like it in America. America needs to get on the really cool natural cliffs train. It's a good one. We stole some rocks from the cliffs, and threw some off too. We're rebels.

Eventually we got tired and hungry and wandered over to the Beachyhead restaurant. I ordered Bangers and Mash with Yorkshire Pudding. How insanely British huh? It was so good. It was three sausages and mashed potatoes with PEAS. I was so excited to have vegetables and meat and POTATOES. So good. Then we got dessert which was also, redonc good.

After lunch, we walked more to get over the insane fullness. We walked on the "Peace Path" and Katie made us walk down the huge steep path to the edge. It seemed ok walking down, but walking back up blew. But whatever. We basked in the glory of giant chalky cliffs and the overall quietness. Yay. We also found a really good spot for cliff picture taking (as if we needed more pictures) and took various "Look at us near cliffs!" pictures.

The bus back to Brighton didn't leave for another hour so we kept walking and taking more pictures. It was tres enjoyable. The bus ride back to Brighton took about an hour which kind of sucked with the SCREAMING CHILDREN. Boo them. But eventually we made it back unscathed.

So we just booked our hostel for Dublin. I already forgot the name of it, but Katie and I were sold on the idea that a guy named BONO once recorded there. Joy! Coyle, Paul Hewson and I will be like this ll before the end of the study abroad! Oh, and the Edge too.

But now I'm tired and I have more Scrubs to watch. So enjoy the insanely long update. I'm out!
