Cripes, I forgot about this! (potential Tolkien darkfic challenge)

So I think I meant to try and solidify plans for this...well, quite a while ago...since it seemed there was some interest: I proposed the idea in January during the Fandom Snowflake Challenge (bit of discussion in comments). Then I forgot about it ( Read more... )

Still interested! If I manage a spare moment in June (it's both my sister and my best friend's kid's graduation this year...the month is shaping up to be exhausting.)

I'm not ultra familiar with the copyright issues, but I don't think so, just because of the difference between the two. Maybe ask Dawn or someone to be more confident, though?

Thanks for commenting! And hey, it doesn't need to be a long story...just however long it needs to be in order to bring the doom and/or gloom. ;)

Speaking of which, Elleth suggested Doom and Gloom in June downthread, which I rather like.

You're welcome! :D And lol, I frequently manage to bring those within the first sentence...

Oh, I like that too! :D

I am!

As for names: I honestly don't know. I know there's not a problem with books having the same title, but there may be a trademark issue with this specific thing. It should (hopefully) say somewhere on their website/blog/whathaveyou if the name is trademarked.

Yay! =D And you're right that the website might make the trademark thing apparent (hadn't thought of that, thanks), although Elleth's suggested tweak of the name would render the issue moot anyway.

You're welcome! For what it's worth, I really like Elleth's tweak.

I'd be up for it! Goodness knows I'll probably be writing on that fic for three years, but in general, yes! :D

In terms of naming I'm no expert, but I doubt there would be a problem - if this ever crossed anybody's radar at all, it's not for profit or even related to the metal festival... but if you want to be entirely safe, how about a tweak like Doom and Gloom in June or something similar?

I'm technically still working on two fics I started during the Bechdel Test challenge Aliana ran (if I haven't touched either in at least a year but "plan to eventually at some unforeseen but existent date" counts as working on it ;)

I really like that tweak, thanks! "Doom and Gloom in June" makes it evident that gloom is an option for those who may not be so inclined toward doom. Or "A June of Doom and Gloom," or some such. *ponders*

I would love to play in this sandbox. As for the name, perhaps just switching things around a bit instead - June's Gloomy Doom or something similar - would negate the copyright issue all around.

Hurrah! And yes, between yours and Elleth's comments, I see that there are other options that will make a potential conflict with the metal festival irrelevant but still include the "doom" and the "June."
