today in class it was learned by me that the use of passive voice can make certain parts of academic writing appear more objective, abstract, formal, and likely to be accepted by journals for publication

It makes it all sound so final! "It will be done" nothing can stop it. "The woman I am going to marry" that has a nice ring to it.
