Bureaucratic Bugger-ups

Someday I'll write a book entitled "The Bureaucratization of Britain", and mostly it'll be based on my misadventures with the deskbound klutzes messing up my life e.g. being late for a Doctor's appointment means I have to reschedule for two weeks hence. Or, trying to claim some benefits, it apparently takes a month to process my claim. When I think ( Read more... )

The problem is that Britain never experienced a real Revolution that completely destroyed the old order and start over again. Cromwell kept a lot of the old bureaucratic shit that had piled up over centuries (though he did do a partial-cleaning out). But even still, over the centuries all this archaic bullshit kept piling up, layer on layer, with all of these peculiar distortions and inefficiencies (like the monarchy and the House of Lords, for instance) that just slow the whole damn process down.

Revolution is the answer. :-D

I just think it's adorable that you continue to listen to KUT. You obviously have an unnatural affection for John Aielli.

Actually, the problem is, we had a a socialist-bureaucratic revolution after WWII when the Labour government nationalized everything, everyone and their pet dog, hence the welfare state, state-run industries etc etc. Socialized medicine, for example, has been generally a good thing, but it overall large parts of our lives are in the hands of other people - and that's the price of democracy, when you elect other people to run your life for you. Sigh.
