There are certain differences between England and her more canon male counterpart, due to the differences in gender. England did take part in military operations but when on the front lines, rather than taking a more infantry based role, she tended to take on the role of a nurse. She first began doing this during the late 17th century when the Royal Navy started employing female nurses on ships and continued to do so during the following centuries (though Royal Navy stopped the practice at the beginning of the 19th). As a nation, however, she did have to fight though to do this she had to continuously persuade her bosses to give permission, arguing that she was a nation before she was a woman and that an exception would just have to be made. Though she did cross dress while doing this for practical reasons, she didn't really pretend to be a man. For many years England didn't have as much personal freedom as she would have liked, being confined more to "women's roles" while at home. She did rebel against this secretly though.

There are also some differences in personality between the two, though they are very similar. Rosemary is a slightly less arrogant and a bit calmer and more mature than Arthur (just a bit).

Personality: (This is the most important part of the application, so don't hesitate to give us a lot! Who is your character? What do they act like? What motivates them, what goals do they have, what are they like? What is it that makes them who they are? Strengths, weaknesses, goals, specific traits, passions, motivations and other similar things can all go in this section. This is where you tell us what your character is like and why; the more detail the better! Note that while character history is an important part of a character's personality, we don't want a summary of events or a timeline-if you mention events, tell us how it affected them!)

One of the things most commonly noted about England is how much of a tsundere she is. She's quite shy and socially awkward and tends to try and compensate for this by getting defensive and forcing herself to act like she doesn't care what anyone else thinks of her. For many centuries she had a rather difficult life, as a child she was often invaded and always fighting with her sisters and neighbours, so she's a little paranoid about other people's intentions towards her. She's distrustful of strangers but also craves social contact and friends, she's always felt rather lonely and isolated. She's also very self-conscious about herself and her looks. Again, she tries to act like she doesn't care and is only trying to be practical, but she adores the idea of being cute and pretty and is easily flattered. England is, however, also very proud of her strength and her culture and likes to brag when she gets the chance.

England actually does have a good heart most of the time and can be very kind. She tries to get along with most people but when they're nice back she gets embarrassed and turns on the tsun. Once she recovers, she can be quite friendly however. This doesn't apply to certain bastards and bitches who need to take a long walk of a short pier, the stupid gits, of course. She can hold a grudge for quite a while, especially if she feels it hasn't been repaid yet. But she has a very maternal nature and loves to take care of people. This is partly why she enjoys working as a nurse so much. She adores children in particular and loved being able to take care of her colonies as they were growing up. Because of how spread out the British Empire was, she didn't get to spend as much time with them as she liked when they were young, however. As they actually did grow up she got thrown off a little but dealt with the issue by being just as mothering as always. Some reacted to this better than others. She isn't just this way with children, though, she's occasionally acts similar with other nations and adults as well. This often involves her being rather nosy and patronising however, and her involvement isn't always welcome. She scolds people a lot, particularly America, and can be rather bossy. Her behaviour can be annoying or, at worst, dangerous but these days she usually means well. This wasn't always the case as her desire for power and revenge could also be considerable motivation.

As a proper English gentlelady, England tries very hard to follow her own definitions of what is proper and polite. She holds being ladylike in very high regard. She messes up quite a bit though and slips into giving into whatever urges she may be feeling at the time. She'll say one this and do the opposite, casually throw curse words into her speech or say something "unladylike" and pretend nothing happened or that it's perfectly proper because it's her saying it. It does get a bit too much some times and she lets loose with delinquent behaviour and whatever happens to be cool with her people at the time. But it's just a way to let off steam on occasion, if she lived that life constantly, she'd get bored. If she didn't do it on occasion, she'd go mad. It's all about finding that fine balance. She is easily annoyed most of the time, however, and she has a habit of hitting people with her broom if pushed too far or in company where she feels comfortable being utterly out of control (such as with France or the rest of the UK).

At her current time point she is trying to avoid conflict. The Great War was exhausting and has left her in a terrible state, even though she won. It was a very expensive war, both in terms of human life and money, and the warfare itself was so horrific that it's turned her off the idea for a while. During the peace treaty process she both wanted revenge of Germany for (from her point of view) helping to start the whole mess and wanted to make sure this peace settlement would be one that actually lasted. After the whole thing was sorted out she felt mildly guilty for how harsh the settlement had been on Germany and was worried it might cause her to act violently in the future. She has other concerns too. Until very recently she was an incredibly powerful empire but over the past few years/decades her colonies have been gaining independence and the war has weakened her position a lot. In particular, Ireland getting independence and India's attempts at it have lead to her being concerned about how much longer she has in her position of strength.

A few of England's relationships have had a big influence on her and are very important to her, though it embarrasses her to admit it. America's revolution against her hurt her very deeply and she still resents it. She took it as a betrayal and further proof that you just couldn't trust other nations, especially since she saw America as a sister- one she actually loved, even! They weren't very close for a long time following that and England felt very bitter about the whole thing. Eventually, however, she decided it might be best to try and get over it and befriend America again, as she really did need allies and the emotional scars had started to fade just a little. At her current time point she's very fond of America and wants to trust her, but she's also a little unsure because of her trust issues and the fact that America is so strong she's a potential threat. She values their good relations very much and tries to keep them, she's more than a little annoyed about America backing out of the League of Nations and looking like she might go back into isolation.

There's no one in the world that England hates more than France, though she's probably also her closest friend. It's a little complicated, though England sees it as very simple. They've had a turbulent history, full of wars and invasions and constantly trying to spite the other but they've helped each other out before and England has always secretly looked up to France for her culture and fashion. They live to annoy each other but there's a level of possessiveness there as well. England and France have been working together recently and are quite close by their standards, but England has been getting exhausted by France's theatrics and things have been a little strained since the Treaty of Versailles and the lack of an American-Anglo guarantee to protect France. Though they're on the same side, England doesn't feel a great deal of loyalty to her neighbour. Still, she's had a huge influence over England over the centuries and their's a bond there that neither of them are particularly openly pleased about but will probably remain there forever.

Powers & Abilities:

England is a nation, so she's connected to the English people and her health and safety tends to rely on theirs and the land. She gets sick when the economy is bad, recovers quickly from physical wounds unless there was an attack on her land/people, etc. Unlike most nations, England has the additional power of witchcraft! She can use a wand to transform people into children and can do other spells, though she's not especially skilled when it comes to more precise things and they tend to go wrong. She can also fly on her broomstick and see magical creatures that others can't.

Onto more mundane things, due to her long life England has collected quite a few skills. She's good with first aid and very basic medicine and can fight using most regular weaponry. She's out of practice with some of the older stuff, though.

What items will they be bringing with them to Discedo? Her broomstick. (+ parosel?)

Third-Person Sample:

England carefully laid the teacups and saucers out onto the tablecloth, checking that everything was placed perfectly. The table was positioned in the rose garden with a beautiful spread and England had to admit the arrangement was simply lovely. She just needed to make sure everything was perfect right away. Her fairy friends hadn't arrived yet, but they were sure to soon and they could be an impatient lot when sugar coated biscuits (store bought) were involved. The little creatures would soon be fluttering about and partaking in the treats making pleasant conversation with her and being generally excellent company, their wings glinting in the sun and their laughter tinkling like chimes.

They would certainly be better company than any of those other slags that she could mention. England frowned at the thought. Yes, it was much better if it was just her, the fairies and maybe the flying mint bunny. It wasn't as if she felt a little lonely, sitting at the table by herself with another empty chair opposite her. England bit her lower lip and looked down at the tea pot. It was a lovely one, a few decades old now, with a lovely pattern. Blue flowers on white porcelain, easily one of England's favourites. Hopefully the fairies would appreciate it.

France probably would have come if England had invited her. But they would have spent the whole time arguing and the tea pot probably would have been broken. America would have called it stupid and wanted to go to Disneyland or something like that. They were both impossible. Everyone was impossible but England, she was quite happy on her own with just her fairies. So what if she had no other country company? She didn't need them and certainly didn't want them. England glared at the chair as if it had offended her personally. Lips pursed, she quickly poured herself a cup of tea. Her fairies would forgive her for starting without them, she was sure. Anyway, she was sure she could hear their singing in the distance, they were nearly there.

The chair stared at England. England stared back. After a few seconds of this, she stood up, stomped her foot and grabbed the chair to carry it back inside, just as the fairies began to descend upon the table spread. They could use the cushions laid out for them.

First-Person Sample:

[England is sitting quietly in front of the camera, embroidering something. Her lips are pursed and she generally looks rather annoyed. It isn't clear whether or not she's aware she's being filmed.]

I don't see why just because we're in a desolate wasteland we can't have nice things. [Holds up what she's sewing. There are flowers and unicorns.] Well, I suppose I know why but the simple things make everything that bit more comfortable. What do you think, dear? [Shows the fabric to someone just on her left. There isn't anyone there but it looks like she thinks there is and that's the important thing.] Hmm, I suppose some pleasant message would look nice written there... Not sure what, "Home Sweet Home" only works in an ironic sense. [Smirks briefly.]

... Of course, that's assuming anyone can read it. An awful lot of people here speak Japanese, it's very odd. Not that there's anything wrong with Japanese, I suppose, but it's not English. [And that is obviously something wrong, judging by her tone.] Really, it's worse than old George, isn't it, dear? [Was that a flutter by her shoulder? Something shiny catching the light in an odd way?]

Well, everyone can appreciate some lovely embroidery, can't they? Except tasteless idiots but they can just go rot in a ditch for all we care, can't they, dear? No, you shouldn't curse them, dear, but it is tempting, yes...
