When I started working in a coffee shop, I was pretty agog at the terse verification of what day of the week it was, or might be soon, that handily masqueraded as pleasantries in the profession.

Recited in a knowing tone, it was a response to "How are you?"
Mournfully, "It's monday, so..."
Hopefully, "Well, it's wednesday... HUMP day! Haha!"
Jubilantly, "It's friday, am I right??? WOO FUCKING HOO FOREVER."

I was kind of tackily scornful of it, and it seems to have kind of petered out with the new crop of bar stars. I like to think it's because I've given them excellent alternative examples such as making a joke about someone's scarf or ripping them off for a lot of money.
