One of the shadows took the form of my friend. During my time with them I appeared to temporarily fall victim to a form of hypnoses unlike anything I've ever experienced before. I too am curious as to what sort of magic what in place here, it was an incredible trick.

The shadows are called Heartless. Anyone can fight them, but you need a keyblade to really get rid of them.

It's like Sora said, they're heartless. They've been taking the form of people to lure and attack others by the sounds of it... Their source at this point should be obvious.
