If you really love someone, their happiness at your expense shouldn't affect anything. It should be second nature. If they're happy, you'll be happy too.

I suppose making life alterations (moving around the country for them, for instance), or personality changes (turning into someone you're not) also falls into this category...

This relates most to breaking up, as I see it. If someone really wants to let you go, and will be happier because of it, you have to make the decision to let them go (and become unhappy), or fight them to stay toghether (where they become unhappy).

This question backs you into a corner where selfishness is unavoidable... what if the person you love is a conscious, thinking human being, and realizes that the decision might make you unhappy? Any love needs to compromise for the general happiness of both, rather than the happiness of just one.

it is answered as the one you love and you being together, thus being happy together. that was obviously cheating, but id say the one i love.

I think all in all they're the same question. If you love someone, then you being happy = them being happy, and vice versa.

or yes, it can be unanswerable too :)

this question has been in my head since.. well a while ago. and if you choose there happiness over yours it will eventual eat you up in the end and cause you more pain then you can handle. and yes personal experience. but pain will be caused in both senerios. yes you can cheat like harpo said and both be happy. i didn't think this question would get much attention. very cool that it did. it also depends of who you are and who the other person is. many things are come into account here.
