I've been meaning to update, about many things, but I'll focus tonight on Thanksgiving.
We moved into our new house the Sunday before Thanksgiving; and by moved into I mean moved in all the furniture too large or too heavy for Nicole and I to move on our own and, one piece of that furniture being the bed, finally spent the first night of many, many ( Read more... )

That "pearls before swine" feeling is an awful one. It illuminates a gap in maturity and seriousness with people that is terribly hard, if not impossible, to overcome. I had a sister-in-law who used to aggravate me in that same way - cheap wine and ice cream, when I asked her to bring something for Christmas when I had cooked a goose (and the rest of a very expensive and elaborate meal), for example. I learned that I would be much less annoyed with people if I asked them NOT to bring anything because I could not trust them to do the right thing. Having your friends not appreciate your house and your tremendous efforts as a host is very disappointing and I'm sorry you have to experience that. Your meal sounds extraordinary.

Bunch of savages in that town. Indeed, I would have rather enjoyed this particular feast. The brussels sprouts (in truth, the city adopted a policy of pluralistic nominalism some time ago, and far be it from the tiny sprout to antagonize its namesake) sound like everything i wanted my green beans to be. Alas, i didn't any spare time to devote to the creation of truly great green beans, hence the humdrum application employed by my friend, rachel. Anyway, know that i would have heaped praise upon you in mashed-potatoesque portions had i been there. Perhaps, when i return, we can make use of the duck i have in cold storage.
