IT also uses the term "engineer" a lot. I think they lost that fight. They'll probably loose this one too.

I so totally agree - I am ready for the bitch slap myself - if I can go through all those fucking years of school and not use the word then why in the hell does some po-dunk who learns a computer program or two get to use it. pisses me off and I wish the AIA would get off their ass and start prosecuting people like they threatened to do years ago.

I've been an "Information Architect" for some time.
I like the term because it gives clients and others an idea that I'm not a programmer (they are more the "engineers") nor am I a graphic artist ("interior decorator"). My work comes above and before theirs.
So whoever the heck AIA is, they can pry the term out of my cold dead hands...
