Did anyone else see a burning light float over Eureka Saturday night some time after 9:00 PM? It was about the size of a very bright star from my perspective (our house is near the Muni), only it was the color of candlelight and every now and then it would drop a shower of bright sparks and grow dimmer for a moment. I still think it was an old-timey airship firebombing Henderson Center with duds, apparently.

Your description is a very close match to a candle balloon or sky lantern. Very man-made.

Yes. I didn't think it was made by gnomes or fire ants. I just wanted to know what it might be, specifically.

I'll look into candle balloons & sky lanterns. :)

I didn't see it on Saturday, but I saw one of those things exactly how you described it new year's eve 1999. It was headed north towards Arcata.
