This is such a lovely picture, thank you so much! We had one little girl stay until September 12 and she was starting to worry me because the rest had gone 1-2 weeks before. She had a great couple of weeks though. No other bird to chase her out of the feeders and she only had to share the flowers with the bees. :)
It makes me so happy to read about others helping them along. I made sure to fatten them up as much as I could here on the east coast of Canada before I sent them along. This was a great summer for Hummingbirds here and like I said at the beginning of my comment, I miss them a lot.
We have hummingbirds year-round. Most migrate south or to the coast where it is usually mild, but the Anna's stick around through the coldest part of the year. I've seen them out there sipping nectar out of the flowers on frosty mornings.
