Snow and the Winter Olympics

So... All in all, we've had Snowpocalypse (Dec 19, 2009), Snowmaggedon (Feb 6-7, 2010) and Snoverkill (Feb 10, 2010) in the DC area.  For snow lovers and of course for the nearby ski resorts, this is an excellent event and a wonder to behold. And because of this, the government was closed for a record 4 days straight, and most school systems 6 days and counting. However, for the poor schmucks that are essential personnel (and thus required to report to work), this past week has been the absolute worst conditions to ever drive in.

DC has always had a traffic problem in the best of weather, but add between 30 to 50 inches of snow to the roads, and we're done for. This area is not accustomed to this level of snow and it shows in our ability to remove it all. Some communities are still trying to recover from this mess. And to add insult to injury, snow has entered the forecast for tomorrow. Now this system is not supposed to accumulate much more than a few inches at best, but with no where for the snow to go, overworked and tired plowers and already strained snow removal budgts, spring really can't come soon enough for the DC area. So, if you know where the switch is on this snow machine, could you be kind enough to turn it off, at least for the DC area?

In other news, I'm absolutely enjoying the Winter Olympics. US athletes have shown amazing skill, fortitude and heart and I'm very proud of how all these athletes have performed. I'm especially estatic  about the Nordic combine silver medal that the US won as well as our first gold in these games for Women's Moguls. But I'm also very pleased that Canada won their first home gold (Men's Moguls). All in all, I can't wait to see how these games play out. I know I'm not very atheletic, but I do love watching the Olympics, both summer and winter games. However, if I had tickets to see only one event in real life, for the winter olympics it would be women's figure skating and for the summer olympics, it would be women's gymnatics.  But since I can watch the games on TV without being there, I'll be here rooting for the athletes, but none more than Team USA.

GO USA!!!!
