I must be missing something here. Whats the difference between making friends with girls and making "FRIENDS" assuming that there isn't anything romantic/sexual going on with friendly girls.

No, nothing romantic going on. If there was romanticism it would be FRIENDS. This is one area in which I have always been a good boyfriend.
