The Other Girl

Been a while, yeah? It's really short, and don't-get-your-hopes-up, but I think I kept this long enough.

She always believed that falling in love is a lot like falling for the beauty of the moon. It’s like looking up to the night sky and think about how the bright crescent compliments the little stars, and yet still feel like the moon is the most beautiful thing in the sky despite still having part of it hidden.

Everyone knows Tiffany. Everyone knows her as someone who wears her heart on her sleeves. Everyone knows her as the bright girl who is always loud and chirpy, who smiles and laughs endlessly. She's the energy booster everyone loves to have around.

Tiffany's someone who's open and kind, always willing to help. She's a great listener, and gives the best advice.

Tiffany never gets mad, they'd say.

She's understanding and patient, they'd notice.

There's nothing more perfect than Tiffany, they would say, because she even walks in the hottest styles, turning heads wherever she goes, with confidence and humility that many envy and admire at the same time.

Tiffany's someone that everyone knows and hears about.

Everyone may think they know Tiffany, but they don't realise that they've only known the side that Tiffany lets on. They know nothing of the other girl, the whole different side of Tiffany that only Taeyeon sees.

They don't know of the Tiffany who shies away with uncharacteristic diffidence when she catches Taeyeon staring, or the way she chooses silence and ignores Taeyeon the whole day whenever she gets mad at her.

They know nothing of the little tantrums Tiffany throws once in a while when things don't go her way, or how grumpy she gets when in the morning.

Taeyeon, like many before and probably even after her, was first attracted to the Tiffany that everyone knew as well, but she eventually fell in love with the other girl, the Tiffany that no one else seemed to know about.

There's nothing about Tiffany that's pretentious, because she always means what she says, and smiles with her whole heart. She never talks badly about anyone, nor does she ever sigh at a mention of a favour.

She's an angel to many, but Taeyeon would like to think that even angels have flaws.

It gives Taeyeon her own warm sense of security that Tiffany feels comfortable and safe enough with her to reveal her imperfections, as well. Taeyeon's proud of that, and thankful, because she wouldn't have fallen in love as hard, any other way.

Taeyeon fell in love with the timid heart that took her months to be let in. She fell in love with the playful girlfriend who pulled pranks on her whenever she least expects it. She fell in love with the stubborn lover who refused to sleep if she hasn't come home, then whines about how long she had to wait.

She fell in love with the Tiffany that would squeeze herself with her on the couch in the middle of the night because she felt sorry she made her sleep there after an argument, and couldn't bring herself to apologize.

People will look at Tiffany and would think they could understand how Taeyeon could fall in love with her, but Taeyeon doesn't feel the need to tell them that they're only partially right.

It's true, in many ways that she did love the Tiffany that they know, but Taeyeon doesn't find it necessary for them to know that she had also mostly fallen completely head over heels in love with the other girl that only she was familiar with.
