a/n: Hola. I intended to post this up on 1st Jan, but didn't. Then I intended to post it 3 weeks ago, and also didn't. xD So here it is, finally.

Taeyeon was different.

She had always been different, that was what Tiffany thought as she walked quietly behind the shorter girl, matching her pace. If she slowed down, Tiffany would slow down too, keeping her distance. It was only when Taeyeon completely stopped walking and turned that she stopped as well.

"Why do you always walk behind me?" Taeyeon asked, a little annoyed. "I've never asked, I know, but it seriously does bother me."

She took a moment to think about it. "Habit?" she replied.

It was partly true. She always ended up walking behind the girl because Taeyeon daydreamed a lot, and somehow she felt like she was intruding her thoughts if she walked beside her. She felt that if she walked behind her, she could somehow give the girl some thinking space. Tiffany did walk behind her a lot, ever since they were kids, though. Taeyeon usually had to slow down and beckoned her to hurry for her to walk beside her.

Taeyeon raised an eyebrow at her reply and she had to keep a straight face as she continued, "You used to be really embarassing to walk with because you trip over nothing at least once a day, and mumbled to yourself a lot."

She laughed when Taeyeon deadpanned. She brought up that dark past every chance she could when the girl least expected it.

"Jesus. That was at least... what, 15 years ago? You seriously need to get over it, chubs," Taeyeon retaliated, turning away and started walking again. "Can you hurry up? I want you to stay beside me," she paused briefly, "-not following me around like my bitch."

She burst out laughing even louder at that because that was just the kind of thing Taeyeon would say. That was just how she was, being rude right after saying anything that could be remotely sweet.

The first time Taeyeon declared her as her bestfriend, Tiffany could vividly remember her saying, "You're my bestfriend. Annoying and a total pain sometimes, but yeah."

They've always been more than that, though, she thought, as she caught up with Taeyeon, their hands bumping once, then twice, before the latter chose to put her hands in the pockets of her hoodie instead (which she had borrowed from Tiffany a long time ago, and was never to be returned, apparently).

Tiffany knew that Taeyeon felt it too, that extra something they had when they're hanging out together with their mutual friends, but especially when they were alone like this; just walking home together, not really talking.

It was hard to explain what they had, because they've been together since chubby Tiffany had transferred to the same elementary school in the middle of the school year and was seated next to a goofy-and-embarassing-as-hell nerdy Taeyeon.

"My hamster died today," was the first thing Taeyeon had said to her as they waited for the next class to start.

It was awkward, and at the tender age of 8, Tiffany remembered internally groaning at the fact that she had to seat next to the weird girl who wore mismatched socks and had two missing front tooth, but that was how their friendship began and they were inseperable ever since.

She had always known that no one could even come close to how much Taeyeon meant to her. They were bestfriends, that was what the others would say. Taeyeon was her bestfriend, but so was Sooyoung and Bora.

Maybe it might be due to the fact that she had known her the longest, but as much as she did consider Taeyeon as her bestfriend, she meant so much more than that at the same time.

With Sooyoung, she would go to for advice and have deep talks about their futures. With Bora, she sought her company when she wanted to unwind, rant about life, and just have fun doing silly things together. They understood her just as well as she understood them.

It wasn't the same for Taeyeon. Taeyeon had always been different. For most parts, they understood each other the best but sometimes -just sometimes- they don't understand each other at all. They could argue over the smallest things, and have childish insults thrown back and forth, but Taeyeon was still the only person that could keep her grounded.

Some things had changed as they watched each other grow into the person they were now, but Tiffany wasn't sure exactly when it was that things between them felt almost.. intimate.

Maybe it started when Tiffany willingly accepted detention for two whole weeks when they were 14, for punching and breaking a boy's nose, just because he played a prank on Taeyeon and made her cry. Taeyeon waited for her every day after school, with a small apologetic smile and a packet of their favourite juice ready for her.

Maybe it escalated when they decided that their first kiss should be with each other when they were 16, that one night as they hung out at the quiet playground that held a lot of their childhood memories together. She couldn't remember what had brought it up and why it seemed like a good idea, claiming that it was strictly for educational purposes. The awkward kiss that lasted a little longer than it should; it must have been a line they shouldn't have crossed in the first place.

Maybe she fell in love during one of their walks, just like this, when their hands would brush against each other's and she really wanted to hold her hand because she wondered if that was how it should be.

Taeyeon would sometimes let their hands brush against each other a few times, and joke about it, saying, "If you want to hold my hand, Tiffany, just do it. Don't be such a wuss."

She would laugh, because she did want to, and she did feel like a coward for not doing so. Taeyeon was kidding, but the small smile that came soon after the obnoxious smug look told her that she had meant it.

Taeyeon felt everything she felt, and they were both aware of it. From the lingering looks, and uncharacteristic gentle smiles, she knew more or less that it was mutual.

Most of the times, it seemed like Taeyeon didn't want her to feel uncomfortable, so the girl would hold back all the things she wanted to say and wanted to do, even though they both wanted the same things.

What held her back? Tiffany wasn't sure because Taeyeon was supposed to be the blunt one. She was supposed to be the straightforward one.

Tiffany stole a glance at the quiet girl walking with her head looking down and wondered if she should take the chance this time, because tonight her feelings intensified, and maybe it was because they had been busy for the past couple of weeks and she had missed her so much.

Or maybe it was the weather, because it was really cold and she really wanted to hold her hand.

So she did.

Tiffany reached out, slipping her hand into the pocket of Taeyeon's hoodie and held her hand. She smiled when the girl looked at her in surprise as she laced their fingers together. She was right, because if anything, it felt like that was exactly how things were supposed to be.

"So," Tiffany started, clearing her throat, "-when exactly are you planning to return my hoodie?"

Taeyeon finally caught herself, grinning widely as she responded, "It's mine now."

It wasn't much, there was a lot more that they could say, Tiffany thought, but it was a start.

---

Tiffany was so beautiful.

That was what she thought as she looked down to the person she was pinning against the bed. With flushed cheeks, unruly hair and glaring daggers up at her, she thought then that Tiffany was really beautiful. They've known each other for more than half their lives, and really, Taeyeon should be used to it by now, but sometimes -just sometimes- she would get to really look at her up close, and she would feel... things when their eyes meet.

She grinned, breaking the awkwardness that was building from her staring and purposely stiffened her body as she laid on top of her.

"UGH," Tiffany groaned, starting to struggle under her hold again. "You're as heavy as a cow! Get off!"

Taeyeon laughed, as she buried her face against the girl's neck and relaxing her hold on her wrists. She slipped her fingers through hers instead, and pushed herself back up. Her bestfriend had stopped struggling, and after Tiffany had held her hand as they walked home earlier that evening, it pretty much unleashed all the feelings she had tried to keep under control.

Taeyeon was in love with her, for a quite while now. They were always pushing and pulling, playing along the lines between friendship and love, and while she had always felt that Tiffany felt the same way, often times, she wasn't that sure.

The girl was a natural tease, and they had moments, every now and then, when things felt different. They had always joked about it, always brushing it off casually, so often that Taeyeon chose to keep her feelings at bay. Even if Tiffany felt the same, she might not have wanted the same things. Taeyeon had always been honest about how she felt about something but she really did love her enough to cower at the idea of losing her. If Tiffany wanted more, the girl would have to find a way to tell her because she could live the rest of her life, loving her by the sidelines if that was all she could do.

It was a little hard, because sometimes she wanted to just lay in her arms and cuddle, but friends don't cuddle, so she often annoys her just enough for them to end up in a random playful wrestle like they just did.

When Tiffany held her hand earlier that evening while walking home, and looked at her as if she had always wanted to do that, that was all the reassurance that Taeyeon needed, so when they reached their houses, Taeyeon had pulled her along to hers instead of letting go of her hand. She was going to tell her tonight, one way or another and Tiffany wasn't going anywhere until they were something more than just bestfriends.

Releasing one of her hands, and she brushed away the messy fringe of the frozen girl. Tiffany became bashful at her gestures, and it was so unlike her that when she bit her lips nervously, looking really shy under her gaze, Taeyeon really wanted to kiss her, wondering if that was how it was supposed to be.

Friends don't kiss. It should have been clear, but they did, once, when they were 16 and anxious about the prospect of that. It really did seem like a good idea at that time, to try kissing each other, because neither wanted to find out from someone else that they could horrible at something like that. It seemed like a good idea, but when the kiss ended, and they pulled away, eyes slowly fluttering open, she knew it probably changed everything despite Tiffany's smug look that broke the moment by teasing,"Guess I'm the better kisser, you're totally swooning."

She could vividly remember her lips, warm and soft, and she remembered tasting a hint of the ice cream they ate just before. She did swoon, because that kiss had completely taken her breath away, and even though Tiffany was being annoying right after, she knew that was when the girl had stolen her heart.

She must have been staring at her lips because when Tiffany spoke, she had seen her lips move before she could register her words.

"If you want to kiss me, Taeyeon, then do it," Tiffany whispered, her eyes softening. "Don't be such a wuss," she added with a small smile, and Taeyeon really wanted to kiss her.

So she did.

She leaned in, closing the small gap and taking Tiffany's bottom lip between hers. She felt the latter smiling against her own, and she smiled along when Tiffany sighed lightly into the kiss; Taeyeon was right, that was how it was supposed to be.

"Do you give?" Taeyeon asked between soft pecks, holding the girl's hands in position again and laughing through her nose when Tiffany playfully bit her lip.

Nuzzling her nose against Taeyeon's, Tiffany gave her another kiss right at the corner of her mouth before responding, "I give."

Maybe it wasn't much, and there was probably a lot more they could say, Taeyeon thought, but it was definitely a start.
