* Don't buy Silk products. It has been owned by a dairy company for some time now, but only recently have they started shifting all of the good acts out of the product while simultaneously raising the price. Silk is no longer organic except for a few special varieties which are only partially organic. The company has shifted from American ( Read more... )

You totally went to Food Inc. without me! AHHH!!!

Yeah fuck Silk, I haven't bought that shit in a long time. They are owned by Dean Foods to be exact. Eden is awesome and so is Vita-Soy. I wrote a litte about hating Silk and the Dean Foods connection over a year ago. I'm glad you decided to join me in my hate.
After that post I found Goodwells has Good Soy and Co. soy yogurt so I have been Silk free for a long time.

I don't care as much if a large company owns something, what matters to me is their actions. Dean can own Silk and although that loses virtue points it can still be a domestic, organic product that's vegan. But they very sneakily have removed the remaining virtues from the brand, so eff em.

I am a shitty vegan and I do not solely purchase organic products but I appreciate this post. Meijer soy milk it is then.

Aw man, Silk is the only decent tasting soymilk that doesn't make me physically ill that I can get from the supermarket. Except for the Trader Joe's brand, but TJ's in NYC is like some circle of hell, probably a really deep one. You have to fight through mobs of angry old ladies and yuppies to get in and get out and then wait on a line that twists all the way around the store. Therefore it's not really worth it to go there just for their brand of soymilk.

Though I am not strict in any way about eating organic/vegan I do like to make informed choices if I can, so I do appreciate the information. I will have to try one of the other soymilk brands at the store and hope that it will not cause me to vomit, be pleasing to both my and Zane's palate AND not be a total dick company.

Re-reading that, I have realized that "Dick Company" would be either a really great name for a band, or a really great name for a porn star.

Don't know how true it is but I heard that Trader Joes is owned by Aldi. Not saying that is good or bad, but I just heard that through word of mouth and well...it is hearsay information so do with it as you will.

My understanding is that it's the same family but they aren't really related. Like...two brothers happen to own supermarket chains, but they dont own them together, or something.
