I highly recommend getting a studio or some other not-your-house work space to work out of. Though I still dick around on the internet from time to time, my productivity has at least doubled in terms of what I am able to get done in a given day. It's truly amazing. Also, it's fun to "go to work" again.

Yes. The mentality of going to "work" or "school" or "the gym" is very effective. After I'm done with what I have to do at school, i don't want to hang out there with all those smelly underclassmen in their free oversized t shirts and pajama bottoms.

Many, many things can be done with just a 10x10 room, but when I try to do it all in that space it gets confused and doesn't work.

So you have a dedicated studio?

Yeah, I share a space with a friend, it's part of one big room with partitions where three other artists (besides us) each have a little room. But usually I am the only one here, or there's one other person here.

Would a dedicated office space in the new house help, since it wouldnt' then be a living room or bedroom? Or would the space have to be in a separate building in order for the psychological shift to occur?

I think it would be okay, but only marginally better than what I currently have. The more I think about it, the more I strongly suspect that having a place where I leave the building where I sleep and arrive at another building is what would be needed. I am turning The Russell around in my head because I know at least four people who have different spaces there already and if I can fill Bagley house it will save me enough money to still pay out less to live in that house and also share a space there ( ... )

I'd offer to turn my garage into some kind of simple, heated workspace if it didn't already contain live chickens.
