Day 257--Coffee/Work

Sep 03, 2008 20:57

Am I the only one that hates buying coffee out (from like a Starbuck's) and trying to drink it with the lid on? It's impossible to tell how hot the coffee is. I either burn the crap out of my mouth, or pull away before I get any coffee, out of fear that I'll burn the crap out of my mouth ( Read more... )

Your experience jibes with what I gleaned from my professors at Hope, when I was considering the career path you have taken, right down to the sense of being a half-step ahead of the students. Next semester, you'll have a better sense of what you're doing, and the next time you have to teach these particular classes, you'll have a set of lecture notes ready to be tweaked, instead of summoned from the aether.

Yup -- sounds like a real job. But not quite as challenging as it could be, i.e., having that and a young kid (oh, I remember!): that's when the challenge changes from staying awake past 9 to staying awake longer than the kid. Yikes, indeed.
You're doing just fine.

I hate that too. I have very sensitive teeth and I need the coffee to cool before I drink it, so that's part of it. But the main reason I hate coffee with lids? I always manage to get coffee all over everywhere when I drink from the sippy-hole. It's a physical impossibility, yet somehow I always manage to get coffee on my hands/on my clothes/up my nose/all three.

Seriously, dude? You're totally my hero. Cut yourself a little slack.

Sounds like you're doing a great job to me. My own experience teaching two different classes is going similarly, although I am not recovering from heart surgery. FYI: Put on 2-3 times a day, cocoa butter will help fade the scar.

yes on all counts anonymous September 23 2008, 17:26:05 UTC
First: yes, I prefer to sit down with my takeout coffee so that I can drink it lidless and understand exactly what I'm about to get myself into.

Second: I have no direct experience, but from what Adam tells me that is exactly what your first semester teaching should be like. It gets easier when you have everything down and can use it over again next time.

Third: I hope that we'll see you and your scar this weekend. You'd better bring Sir Koff-a-Lot as your date.
