Needless to say, the past week has been difficult.

Tuesday, August 23. I started to drive to New Orleans (4 day
drive, which included two nights in Dallas to see Audrey). 1700 miles, 26
hours.

Thursday, August 25. Hurricane hit Miami. Lorena's flight
got out in the morning before it hit (thank God she got out of there in
time...)

Friday, August ( Read more... )

I'm glad you got out ok, the most important thing is your life and health. As for the rest I've known you long enough to know that you can overcome any setback that comes your way. It may not seem like that now, but it's the truth. I will definetly donate to the red cross, and I'm sure that although the situation looks bleak, the city of New Orleans will rise again.

I am absolutely speechless after reading your entry. I wish I could be of more help to you right now in this time of turmoil. You have my support and you've always got a friend to talk to (not to mention a kick ass place to stay whenever you want)!

Keep the faith and keep in touch,

I may still only be your big sister, but you can always call me or John just to talk if you need it. Or have a shoulder to cry on if that's what you need.
And for everyone, please contribute! However, my message is: the victims of Hurricane Katrina extend further than just the humans. While many were evacuating, they were told not to bring their pets with them from home. Only humans have been allowed to travel from make-shift shelters to safer locations. Some managed to smuggle their pets to safetly, but others had to leave their family pets on the side of the road. For many of these people, the pet may be their only family left in these uncertain times. You can help the pets be reunited with their owners, given vaccinations, food and supplies by contributing directly to the PETCO Foundation (by walking into a PETCO store or online at petco.com) or American Humane Association.
