New Year
Usually at the turn of the year I post a lovingly detailed list of the highs and lows of the previous 12 months and state the desperately held belief that the next year will be bright and shiny and good. Does anyone want my dress?

I have this dress (in size 2x) to give away. It is utterly cute (Megan has one the same shape which is Teh Hottness on her) but it's too short for my ridiculously long torso so all the ruching hits at the wrong place. Seeing as we're not spending our money on a new house just yet we're planning a holiday. While getting away somewhere warm during a Christchurch winter is going to be wonderful the main point of the exercise is to have something to plan. This time of year it feels like we get it from both sides. There's "wah, I can't buy alcohol for 24 hours" and "but I wanna open my garden centre" from one side and "it doesn't make sense for non-christians to want a day off" from the other.

The word for the thing that I do with my time
I hate that moment of panic I feel when I'm at a gathering of people I don't really know and someone asks me the dread question "...and what do you do?" It take conscious effort not to look at my shuffling feet and preface my answer with "just".
