It hurt. Fuck it hurt. The bullets had torn through his gut and both his legs. He was bleeding like a stuck pig. He pushed himself up to lean against the wall. He was going to die here, but he was ok with that really. Jensen got away and that was all that mattered. He was just about to set off the nuke when Jensen came back.
“T-thought I said go.”
“Yeah well I am shitty at listening. Come on.”
Jensen bent down to pick Cougar up but Cougar pushed him away.
“Get out of here.”
“Like hell I will.”
“Jensen…”
“No! I am not leaving you behind so you better fuckin buckle in skippy.”
Jensen grabbed Cougar and had him in a fireman’s carry as he got him to where Pooch was waiting. They patched Cougar up so he wouldn’t bleed out on the way to the surface.
“The nuke…”
“Seriously? I can bring satellites down from space. You don’t think I can set off a freakin nuke?”
Cougar couldn’t really argue with that. Pooch started to carry Cougar to the platform on the rig where they left the plane. Jensen went back to the nuke to set it to blow. When they reached the surface, Pooch laid Cougar on the ground while he started up the plane. Once they heard the engine start Jensen picked Cougar up and got him inside and strapped him in.
“Why?”
“Because I love you…you fucking idiot. If you really thought I was going to leave you behind…”
The pain in Jensen’s voice cut Cougar more than his wounds. He loved the hacker so much. It
was why he stayed behind. He would gladly sacrifice himself just to make sure Jensen lived. Cougar told Jensen how much he meant to the sniper the best way he knew how. He took his hat off his head and put it on Jensen’s head. Jensen ran his fingers over the brim of the hat in slight awe over what Cougar had done. Cougar was fairly certain Jensen got what he was trying to say.
Once they were far enough out Jensen held out the device he crafted to set off the nuke to Cougar.
“You started it....”
Cougar took the device from Jensen’s hand. He looked at the device for a few moments before hitting the button. There wasn’t the usual celebrating that happened when they blew something up. Cougar might be alive, but Clay was still dead. Their Coronel…their friend was gone. Killed by the girl they thought they could trust. She probably didn’t make it off the dock alive. If she did they would be after her.
When they approached their destination, Pooch saw someone standing by where they were going to land.
“Yo Jens…who’s that meeting us?”
Jensen moved to the window to see what Pooch was talking about. The person standing there was dressed in a black jacket and pants with a white shirt. When the person looked up at them, Jensen couldn’t believe his eyes.
“Holy fucking shit…”
Jensen threw his head back and howled with joy. Pooch and Cougar looked at Jensen like he was insane. It wasn’t the first time they had look at him like that, but considering everything that had happened they were worried that he might have finally cracked.
“Jens?”
“It’s Clay! It’s fuckin Clay! He’s alive!”
Despite the pain Cougar adjusted himself so he could look out of the window too. Sure enough there was Franklin Clay. His laughter joined Jensen’s. They all had made it out after all. They got their revenge and actually all made it out alive.
When Pooch landed the plane Jensen jumped out and tackled Clay. Cougar knew he would be upset that his lover ditched him, but he understood Jensen’s excitement. Clay had always been like a father figure to Jensen and it affected the hacker deeply when they thought he had died.
Pooch helped Cougar get up and out as Jensen finally got off Clay. Somehow Clay had avoided the majority of the fire bomb, but did manage to push Max out of the window. His arm was burned along with a little bit of his face, but he was alive. Considering how badly the day could have ended, no one was going to bitch too badly.
Pooch set Cougar on the ground so he could find them some wheels to get home. Jensen sat down next to Cougar, still wearing his hat.
“ Now what mi corazón?”
“Well first we get your gimpy ass patched up. Then…let’s go anywhere. You pick.”
Cougar thought about it for a moment. The choice really had been simple.
“To see your hermana and the niña.”
Jensen was stunned. Out of all of the places they could go…Cougar wanted to go see his family. Could he really love this man any more than he did? He didn’t think so. Jensen leaned in to kiss Cougar, the first chance he had gotten since he went back to save Cougar.
“Jensen make out with Cougar later. We need to get him checked out.”
The only response Jensen could think of was to raise a middle finger to Clay, who laughed.
Nice to know things hadn’t changed.
