Being a sniper it was bound to happen. While he was good, he couldn’t stay invisible. They could track the shots if they were that smart and find him. This group that was their latest mark were actually that smart and started shooting back at him, hindering his escape. He told the others that they were firing at him and Pooch and Clay said they were on their way. Cougar looked up just in enough time to the grenade being thrown onto the roof. He cursed under his breath and scrambled to get far enough away before it blew. The grenade exploded, the shock wave from the blast knocking him down and causing him to hit his head off the roof hard.
“--ougar!”
He recognized the voice, but he wasn’t sure where. He felt at peace now, something he had been craving ever since all of this with Max started. He didn’t feel the guilt of putting the children on the chopper. He didn’t feel the weight of having to protect this team and be on guard all the time.
“Coug--”
There was the voice again. Where had he heard it before? It sounded like it was getting further away. Maybe he could enjoy his peace in…peace. He was starting to feel tired. Maybe if he could just rest for a little bit…
“Carlos!”
Jensen…it was Jensen. How could he even think about leaving his soul behind? Jensen needed him. He fought the tiredness. It was a trick. If he gave in he would never see Jensen again. That was his real peace.
“Carlos you get up right now you hear me?! GET UP!!”
Slowly Cougar managed to get to his feet and made his was to his team. Before he could even say anything Jensen grabbed him and wrapped him in a tight hug.
“If you…I thought…You almost.”
It broke Cougar’s heart a little to hear the pain in Jensen’s voice. The hacker couldn’t even complete a sentence. For a man that was always talking, it said a lot to Cougar. Clay’s shout of instructions broke them apart, but Cougar gave Jensen a look that said they would talk about his later.
When they managed to get back to the safe house and their room, Jensen grabbed him again. Cougar wrapped his arms just as tightly around him, trying to convince Jensen that he was still here. Just as suddenly as he grabbed him Jensen let him go and started to pace.
“Thought you were dead…you weren’t answering anyone. You were dead and I was going to be alone…”
Cougar watched him face for a few moments before taking action. He grabbed Jensen and stopped his pacing. He took the hacker’s hand and placed it over his heart so Jensen could feel it beating.
“I heard you. Couldn’t leave you. Alma gemelas….you and me.”
Cougar knew that Jensen was trying to translate what he said. When Jensen figured it out, he keeps starring at his hand on Cougar’s heart.
“Alma gemelas…I like that. Does that mean I get to touch your hat?”
Cougar smirked before pulling Jensen closer.
“Never touch the hat.”
