Fucking Cougar. He was Special Forces for fuck sakes. He could take care of himself. He didn’t need a damn shadow all the time. So they fought. Not the first time they have had a fight since they have known each other, but it was the first time they had a fight since they started sleeping together. It was a pretty impressive fight. It would put a few of Aisha’s and Clay’s fights to shame. Pooch sent him into their room to cool down and he snuck out the window. He’d show fucking them.
He was on his way back from the bar when he was shoved against a brick wall. Maybe having a shadow wasn’t that bad of an idea after all. They demanded money from him, and he kept them talking long enough for him to reach for his gun. At least this time he remembered it. He waved it around and that worked in scarring them away. He felt a little proud of himself. Maybe he didn’t need Cougar after all.
“Who’s the bitch now?”
Smirking to himself he started walking back. He was a badass, maybe even more badass than Cougar. Well…maybe not that badass. After a few feet he heard footsteps behind him. Fuck. Before he could even really stop and think he spun around and shot. He heard a groan of pain and a body hitting the pavement. Oh hell yeah. He sprinted back towards the body, ready to brag that they got their ass kicked by a hacker. Then he saw a familiar cowboy hat. Oh holy fuck. Cougar…he just fucking shot Cougar. His heart dropped into his stomach as he dropped to his knees next to Cougar to check him over.
“Oh fuck…Cougs…I’m sorry. I’m so fucking sorry.”
He got Cougar’s jacket off to see the wound. Thankfully he was a crappy shot drunk and managed to his Cougar in his shoulder.
“Idiota. Su objetivo es horrible.”
“I just shot you and all you can talk about is my aim?!”
Jensen felt sick to his stomach. This was the one person he never wanted to hurt; and he just shot him. Wordlessly Jensen tied the wound off and helped Cougar up. They weren’t that far away from the house; Jensen not saying a word the rest of the walk. When they got back, Pooch and Clay jumped to their feet and looked over Cougar. Jensen sat back, paler than normal and not saying a word as Pooch patched Cougar up. The only words going through his head were ‘You shot Cougar’ in an endless loop. If Pooch and Clay knew what happened they didn’t say. Once they were satisfied with the patch job they left the two alone, more than likely noticing the tension in the air.
Jensen starred at the blood on his hands. Cougar’s blood. Cougar’s blood that was because of him. He got up suddenly and ran to the bathroom. He barely made it to the bathroom before he vomited a combination of way too much alcohol and the guilt that threatened to suffocate him. He sat next to the toilet, trying to figure out what the fuck to do. Surely his relationship with Cougar was over. What man would stay with someone who just shot him? When Jensen went to clean himself up he saw the blood on his hands again. He vomited again. It took him three times until he could actually clean himself up.
By the time he actually got out of the bathroom, it seemed like everyone went to bed. Jensen thought about leaving, running away and never returning. He had to see Cougar one more time before he did through. He quietly made his way to their bedroom. Cougar seemed to be sleeping. Jensen could make out the bandages on his shoulder, and he thought he was going to be sick again. As he turned to leave, Cougar’s hand shot out and grabbed his wrist.
“Permanencia.”
“Why? I shot you…”
“Permanencia… conmigo”
Jensen didn’t know what to say. He shot this man…and he still wanted him to stay. Jensen could feel the tears welling up in his eyes.
“I’m sorry…I never wanted to..”
Cougar pulled Jensen down and kissed him. Jensen didn’t know he was crying until Cougar wiped the tears away. Without saying a word Cougar pulled Jensen onto the bed and adjusted them so Jensen was laying against his uninjured shoulder.
“Sleep. Talk tomorrow.”
Cougar kissed him on his forehead before taking his hat off, placing it on Jensen’s head before closing his eyes to go back to sleep. Jensen curled closer to Cougar before closing his eyes. Shooting Cougar was a mistake…but thinking that he could walk away, that Cougar would let him leave, was a bigger mistake. Neither one he would be making again anytime soon.
