Since he was shot he was a horrible insomniac. He couldn’t stay put for long. Despite being in a chair he had to be moving. Even if he was just moving his hands he just could not be still. He wasn’t sure why. Maybe he was trying to make up for the lack of movement in his legs.
He wasn’t sure why but Mac was still with him. His presence calmed Danny ‘s nerves. When he couldn’t sleep Mac couldn’t sleep either so they would spend most of the time talking until Danny fell back to sleep until he had to get up for his therapy session.

Some days Danny wished he was someone else. Someone who didn’t have to always check the shadows for someone from his past to make sure the past stayed in the past. Mac knew a little about his childhood; a little more since the incident with Louie, but he didn’t know everything.
He knew he couldn’t hide the shadows forever. He knew one day they could come back and haunt him. He probably should tell Mac everything so he’s not caught by surprise. He just can’t though. He had worked so hard to earn Mac’s respect, and his love. He’s not willing to risk all of that. Not just yet.

It was almost an instant reaction. It didn’t matter where he started in the bed or how long he had been asleep. Every time Mac would come to bed, Danny would instantly move over to where Mac was. Mac would always smile softly and wrap his arm around Danny’s waist before falling asleep.
Danny slept horribly when Mac wasn’t around. He tossed and turned, only getting a few hours at best. It just didn’t feel right. Mac was like an anchor for him, keeping the bad dreams away.
What Danny didn’t know was that Mac slept just as badly when Danny wasn’t around.

The first unofficial rule of the lab was that if Stella was looking for you with a certain look on her face, it was not a good thing for you. It either meant that someone screwed up or you just made her mad. Since they had recently solved a case, Mac was certain he did something wrong.
She stood in his doorway, arms crossed in front of her. Mac braced himself for what she had to say.
“Mac…I’m going to kill your husband.”
Mac breathed a sigh of relief. This he could handle. She wanted to kill Danny at least twice a month, and hadn’t done it yet.
“What did he do now Stella?”
“Do you know what the word of the day is? According to Danny’s calendar it’s spanking Mac. Everything is spanking today. Don thinks he’s hitting on him.”
“Don thinks everyone is hitting on him.”
Despite how angry she was she laughed.
“You aren’t helping.”
“Would it help if I promised to hide the calendar?”
That seemed to satisfy her.
“Yes it would.”
“I’ll take care of it.”
She nodded and left. Mac chuckled to himself and went back to the paperwork. He would take care of it, right after he saw what tomorrows word was.
Title: Sphinx

Rating: PG

Warnings: None really
They had been working on a case for a few weeks now. People were being kidnapped and killed. There was always a sphinx statue mailed to the victim’s house the day after they disappeared.
It didn’t make any sense. They work sphinx meant ‘to strangle’, which none of the victims later found were, and it was associated with religious temples and royal tombs; all of their victims were poor and atheists.
Nothing seemed to connect. The body dump locations were different types of locations for each victim, each victim was killed in a different way, and not even the statues mailed to the victim’s families were the same. It was all so random…too random. It was random enough for Mac to start worrying about Danny. Danny would just smile and say it would never be him, because he believed in god.
Mac rolled his eyes and told him to get back to work.

Their first date ended just before sunrise. Well…if you counted a yelling match in the lab that lead to sex in Mac’s office as a first date.
They sat on the steps of Danny’s apartment and watched the sun come up. They talked about what happened at the lab, and what it would mean for their relationship.
They had been dancing around each other since Mac recruited Danny for the lab. They had gone through the awkward conversations and all that before what happened last night/today.
So they decided that their relationship had been a dating one all along. It just took them a sunrise on Danny’s steps to realize it.

Mac’s apartment was the best place to watch a sunset. He had discovered that little fact one evening he was off and he was making dinner for Mac. He was setting the table when he caught a glimpse of the sunset out of the corner of his eye. He actually stopped what he was doing to watch it before going back to setting up dinner.
Mac teased him once that he only loved him for the view as they watched the sunset together. Danny pretended to think about it before Mac rolled his eyes and smacked Danny in the head before turning his attention back to the setting sun.

When Stella called Danny to tell him that Mac had been hurt during the latest case, his heart stopped.
He raced to the hospital as quickly as he could. Any tickets he got he was certain Don could take care of them. He wasn’t a very religious man, but he started to pray. He promised got that if Mac was alright he would be a better person.
When Danny finally got to the hospital and the room that Mac was in, he almost dropped to his knees at what he saw.
Mac was fine. Well, not exactly fine. He did get a couple stitches and a very nasty bruise on his face, but he wasn’t attached to any machines.
Danny started praying again. This time it was full of thank you’s and promises to hold up his end of the bargain since God held up his.

Every time Don saw him put something in the box, Don would laugh and call him a girl. Danny would just flip him off. Don didn’t understand what the box was about.
The box was for things Danny treasured the most. There were pictures of his family, a few of Aiden’s recipes (Oh how much it still hurt to see them), and most recently things about his relationship with Mac.
He had been in several relationships before, but none of them ever made it into the box. It wasn’t anything against the girls, they just didn’t compare to Mac. Danny wasn’t sure if anything really would.
He smiled to himself as he added the small black box from last night to the box.

Mac was known for not letting his emotions get in the way of his job. There was really only one thing that could change that about him. That was Danny.
Danny always made sure that he did everything that he could to make sure that he was not Mac’s weakness, that he wasn’t the thing that would bring Mac down.
Mac knew that being with Danny could make him vulnerable, but he honestly couldn’t bring himself to care. He loved Danny with everything in his soul. He sure as hell wasn’t going to give it up for a job.
He watched Danny and how he acted at work. It actually broke his heart to see Danny see himself as a weakness. Danny only made Mac stronger.
