If tomorrow you were about to die, and you were allowed to relive any 60 seconds of your life before the end, which minute would you pick?

The minute it took me to walk from backstage, up to first chair, take a bow, and hear the crowd cheer and applause.

I'd have to say something similar to midnitesilven... the minute just before and after I hit the final note in the song "Bless the Lord" in Godspell my senior year of high school, at the final performance of the show's run.

I'd choose when I was sitting in the sun on the steps of a Khmer ruin in rural Khorat. The stones were warm, the sun was intense, there weren't very many people around and I had wanted to see a Khmer temple for a good 10 years. I was still recovering from ankle and knee injuries but had managed to climb up the stairs so I could see the inner courtyard, which in Hindu cosmology signified the center of the universe where the gods lived.

White Sands National Monument. Tom and me and Hugh and April were sledding on sand, which was perfectly white and cool and soft. The sun was setting behind the mountains in a spectacular array of colors. Tom and I kind of looked at each other like "this is impossibly great" and I don't think I have ever been happier at any one moment in my life.

Except maybe that first time, when I opened the door to my apartment in Charlottesville and he was standing there. And we could finally be together.
