Unbelievable

So, there's a LJ community where I lurk from time to time. Recently, a member there had made a post, then later deleted it after being attacked by a few people. One of the people is a stalker who follows her all over the internet. The other attacks were from other members who apparently just don't like this woman. One of them (and I think the ( Read more... )

People can be jerks, and moreso when they're behind the mask of a username. For as long as I've been on LJ I've seen people do terrible things to each other, say careless, awful things, and report other users for false charges (like stalking or physical threats). I've seen people use sockpuppets and then pretend to be mean to themselves to gain sympathy from a community, lie and have massive wankfests so they can look good in the public eye, pretend to have cancer and open a PayPal accounts for donations, and there were a couple of fans who reported their own false deaths; once to get away from plagiarism accusations and another to just start a new identity on LJ. It's all sort of ridiculous but something about being anonymous on the internets means people don't have to take responsibility for their own actions. I don't understand that crap at all ( ... )

The owner was present, but she's also dealing with some heavy stuff in her life. In fact, the thread where these two were putting all the blame on the victim was started by the owner, if I recall correctly. Basically chastising members for their comments that drove the OP to remove her post. These other people apparently didn't listen to the owner. So, she later jumped in by mentioning that she'd already removed one person and didn't want to have to remove any additional members, so watch your posts. And they still didn't listen. I believe one of the 'you're to blame' people is from another country, but that still doesn't excuse him/her from listening to the group owner. Me? I'd have kicked their butts out the moment I saw that their posts came after I'd warned everyone about watching what they wrote (no personal attacks, etc.). I haven't been back, because my fingers were getting twitchy, so for all I know, she might have kicked them off after that.

That is terrible. I can't believe the owner even allowed it to get to that point. And as for the bullying comments, that just shows their ignorance. Honestly, those are the people that will scream victim one day themselves, just watch and see.
