I wouldn't mind the replace and dispose mindset if we could recycle what's disposed effectively. My hope is that the next ten years will bring performance gains in technology and production that will drastically over-reach our needs for computing power, and the shift will move from cheaper, faster to longer lasting, better made. Expected lifetimes of products will move from 2-3 years to 5-10 years, and my hope is that bulk waste reclamation efforts like this improve and expand to be able to process our old waste en masse, such that we empty landfills and stop creating new ones. The process is supposed to be able to handle everything but nuclear waste, the problem is that it doesn't work well with widely varied input, so you'd need some kind of sorting or separation of old garbage. The good news is that it works great at handling new sources of waste that are relatively consistent, like car shredders and livestock offal.
