It way be quiet on the internet front, but I have been beavering away behind the scenes, and there is actual progress on the Elizabethan redwork coif.
As you can see, all of the outlining is finished. Hooray! It's all done in double running stitch. Part of me thought "Oh my god, it took months to get this far, maybe I should not bother with the shading". I decided that if you are going to do a thing, you might as well do it properly, so I dutifully knuckled down and got going on said shading, and wow, I'm really glad I did.
The last one is taken with the flash, which is why it's a bit stark. It also really shows the weave of the linen, which is actually totally wrong for this kind of embroidery, but pretty much all we can get these days. What I would really like is some linen that is still light and relatively fine, but a really dense weave. Somehow I think that I would need to make it myself, and that ain't gonna happen any time soon! Oh well. There are a couple more photos over on my
Flickr account if you want to see them.
