My car has been headed for the shop for a few weeks now with what was described to me as a "small exhaust leak and a major oil leak." I figured the repairs would be in the $500 to $1000 range and all would be well. Monday, I got a flat tire and Tuesday, the exhaust line came apart from the catalytic converter. Yeah, it does, but I'd rather the car go now, than when I'm in grad school driving 45 minutes one way to school every day. Really I'm mostly irritated at the hassle of finding a new car. Luckily the patch up job only cost me $60!

My car is dying too, so I feel your pain. My car was leaking a lot of oil and the garage said I needed a whole new engine, but my Dad and I took a look at it was just a severed hose behind the engine. But there's still more wrong with it.

PS, don't buy a Volkswagen, my Jetta spent more time in the garage than I spent driving it. My friend's Jetta also has a lot of problems too.

The civic will serve you well, trouble is finding them used is not always an easy thing. But good luck!! If you need anything give a shout, i am sure things can be arranged.
