I found this blog with an interesting entry about the blogger's
nemesis--the person who has done everything the blogger wanted to do with her life.
If she thinks that she wants to do "X", she finds out that he's either doing "X" or has done it.
Well, I too have a nemesis and because I'm not particularly eager for him to find this entry,I will not use his name. But, here's my story: I had a crush on him in college were we were in the same dorm and his roommate was in love with one of my friends. He was about the only intelligent person I knew at my big state university party school and he had the same interests as me, which means he liked pop culture. Unfortunately, he was way above my league--he was his high school prom king and looked like a young Gregory Peck while I was an awkward & very geeky girl. Even though we didn't hang out with each other we had a number of classes together so I talked to him on and off through college. He was hot, highly intelligent and funny but most importantly he had self-confidence (probably too much). As a result of this symphony of abilities he's done the things I was too scared to do--move to LA and write for tv. Even on smaller levels, he did all the things I wanted to like intern at the Cannes Film Festival.
Fast forward five years: I knew that he moved to LA after graduation but I didn't know exactly what he was doing. While I was a miserable first year law student watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I see HIS NAME AS THE WRITER OF AN EPISODE (and it was a good episode). You have to understand that 1) I have always wanted to write for television and 2) working (much less writing) for BTVS was my dream. After seeing his name, I called a college friend who knew him as well and we talked about the weirdness that is having someone you know attain noticeable success. His career has really taken off and last season he wrote for Lost and Alias. He is living the life I wanted to live. For the first time in years, I'm pretty happy with my choice to be a lawyer but I tell you if he starts writing for frakking Battlestar Galactica I don't know what I'll do. Seriously. There may be blood.
