I accepted a full time job offer at the place I have been Co-op--ing at for the past few years, I shortly after finally graduated college (about the last time I posted), and gave myself like a three week vacation between school. I had ambitions to take a trip down to NC to visit a furriend I never met before (been chatting with him for like 8+ years or so now...), but that trip never took place and I mostly did stuff around home and the family cottage during the 3 week time off.
The only two social events which occurred during that span of time was visiting
wolvenloser, late one night to meet/chat, get to know him a little better, and watch The Golden Compass, then a day or two later took a couple hour trip to go visit
takatha which was neat, got to meet up with someone else who I never met with in person, we talked nerd, I got to meet his pups, and I helped him build a few collars :).
Vacation ended, and went back to work. I pretty much picked up right where I left off and continued work on some open projects I left. It was a very angsty week because I felt my vacation was wasted not having taken the road trip. Sometime in the next week while I was down in the dumps I caught a facebook invite from a mundane friend I had in college who was having a housewarming party in, coincidentally NC... I now had a legitimate excuse for any family who asked, but if that wasn't enough of a reason to go, one of his ex-roomates who still resides in NY was willing to take the trip with and share fuel expenses, so I then had a driving partner!
Most everything seemed to work out great from that point out, I was able to borrow vacation time and got the entire week off, I did get stuck in NY a day or two longer than I wanted to because I had to watch over Marcus while Rory & Kuma were at AC, but oh well, I'm sure Marcus appreciated it... Long story longer I headed out and made the ~14 hour drive all on one day haha, somehow managed a little over 31MPG with my supercharged 3.8L, which was pretty sweet, and my 18.5 gallon fuel tank got me around 500 miles between fill ups which was also nice :)
When I arrived I was in heaven, there were three Huskies, one Malamute, one German Shepherd, a Yellow Lab mix, a very cute mix, and a Bichon Frise, and they were all for the most part social and very snuggly :) I also later on got to meet another friend and his beastly German Shepherd who had to be upwards of 100 lbs, who also had a great personality :)
Went to a water park for a whole day, got to know both friends very well, ended the day relaxing, tending to sunburns, and snuggling with the girls :)
Next day spent time getting to know both friends better, went swimming with some of the dogs in a local creek, did some exploring of the creek area which I guess used to be a dam which was demolished to allow the water to flow again, then headed off to watch fireworks, and set off some of the $100's worth I picked up from a quick visit to
South of the Border...
Some time later in the week I headed off to the mundane friend's housewarming party and eeh, definitely had more fun on the previous section of the trip, but it was nice seeing familiar faces from college again and to catch up with them...
When I headed back North, I made the ~12 hour trip from a slightly more north location in NC and just like the trip down, did all the driving haha.
What means the most about the trip, other than having met cool new people [in person] is knowing I actually made such an ambitious trip. Those who know me IRL know I have little to no confidence in my own capabilities... Personality quirk I need to shake...
Anyways after that I worked for a few weeks, and then took another trip; this time to California!!!
I left last Friday, flew in to meet up with
furwolf who was kind enough to provide me a place to stay for a few days while I got to know him a little better, and of course meet Kiba :)
Did a bunch of cool stuff, despite having Furwolf's third alternator crap out on him, rendering his car mostly immobile...
I snapped lots of pics, and of course lots of cute Kiba pictures, but I lack the proper editing software on this new lappy to format them all, so I'll post them on a future date.
This trip has been part play, part work, and I'm currently in the work section of the trip. I'm hoping to get another chance to meet up with FW this coming weekend, and possibly attend an alleged FC Brunch which happens to be this weekend, but we'll see if time constraints of my flight out interfere...
Alright that's all for now, I gotta be up early tomorrow for more training, and a presentation to a bunch of people I don't know-- oh and the best part about the presentation is I just learned about it earlier tonight!!! Should be fun!!!
I'll do more of a recap of my ongoing California visit at a later date :)
