I just read a friends blog about reading and I decided I wanted to write my own. As I stated, I gave up reading after leaving the english dept in college. I was tired of being told what to read. Once I started again however, I could not get enough, I think I have been reading fervently for a year or so now and it has been like finding an old friend ( Read more... )

I am all over the place lately with books. Mostly brain candy these days. I will give you a small handful to work with.

The Life of Pi - Yann Martel (about an Indian boy and a zoo, very good stuff)

Bluefeather Fellini - Max Evans (All over the place, insane, entertaining)

Light House - William Monahan (very funny satire, quick read)

The Cabinet of Curiosities - Douglas Preston,Lincoln Child (interesting thriller about archaeology and a 100 year old serial killing spree, mauhahaha)

I have been requested to read both The Painted Bird - Jerzy N Kosinski and The Incredible Lightness of Being - Ajay Ahuja. The first is a war story sort of, the second is Tibetan proverb or something. ;)

Raise High the Roofbeams, Carpenters
and
Seymour, and Introduction

It's all one book - JD Salinger. I hated Catcher in the Rye, (I know, I know...), but I love these books he writes about the Glass family. I find them to be fascinating character studies. (Try Franny and Zooey, too, if you haven't already read these.)

I also just read "Good in Bed" which, I think, is technically a chick book, but still very good and insightful into the mind of a woman. Or at least into mine! I thought it was very well done. (Kind of an emotional roller-coaster ride, though.)

Ooh oh! Pick me!!

I've also heard that Life of Pi is good (sis says so) although I haven't read it myself.

African Diaries is excellent and several people that I've recommended it to agree with me. (this also from sis)
-it's about a young man travelling to Africa with his parents. He's late teens I think and he has a drug problem and his parents are screwy and they think that by getting away together they can fix their family. Really good and an awesome ending.

I have so many more but I don't know your tastes. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is my personal favourite.
Princess Bride is another.
So many...so many...
