I guess it all depends on where you live. Suburban and beach areas have public restrooms, but downtown has none. Downtown is a different story entirely. Even well-groomed paying customers don't have many public restroom options. I know of one in all of downtown LA that I could use without having to buy something first, and that would only be during business hours on a weekday.
I used to still be dressed decent as a bum, and I'm female, so I could go into most office buildings and be able to use the bathrooms. Hotels are also really nice, and in suburbia, 24 hour grocery stores are a lifesaver.
Of course, I don't really know downtown LA, but if I was homeless, I would find places.
for some strange reason, that doesnt bother me. i've been in mexico where the bathrooms have such a stench because they don't flush the toilet paper...that didn't bother me too much either. what bothered me was watching a homeless person digging through a trash can, looking around, then pulling something out and eating it.. because everyone has to poop somewhere... but no one should have to eat out of a trash can...
I agree. I think what's more sad is that I've seen them pick up a dirty and already finished cigarette from the floor and attempt to smoke it. Or maybe that's just me but even if it was just an addiction for them, it's just sad to the point where they have to smoke dirty cigarettes that people step on.

When I was homeless I totally used BATHROOMS. I never understood why other homeless people couldn't (or wouldn't want to) do the same.
